History

Housed in a distinctive engineer's villa

The rich history of our B&B

Ars Vivendi is housed in a historic, distinctive engineer’s villa. The villa was part of the “Lommel-Werkplaatsen” workers’ housing estate, built between 1904 and 1914. On this site, several workers’ houses were built around the Lommel zinc factory.

The houses were concentrated in the “Enkel rij” (Single Row) – now Martinus Van Gurplaan – and the “Dubbel rij” (Double Row). Some of the original houses have been preserved. You can find a list of these on the Erfgoed Vlaanderen website.

The villa’s original name was “Villa des Geraniums”. It later became known as “Villa Crimson-Rambler”. The villa and the directors’ residences (Werkplaatsen 67), which now house the non-profit organization Akindo, are the only remaining houses where executives from the Lommel zinc factory once lived.
